If you are looking for a restaurant, in Heber Springs, that has something for everyone then Macks is the place for you. The food is fine, you can't please everyone...the portions are huge and they don't have a problem if you share your meal. Of course they are known for their fish, but in my opinion, the fish is just so so. It has never been consistent. You might go one night and order fish and you get 3 pieces of huge, hot, crispy fish....the next night might bring just the opposite. So.....we usually order the chicken. Their chicken fried chicken with white gravy is some of the best I have tasted. You are served with a plate of hot hush puppies before you order your food. I usually fill up on these....The salad bar is a la carte on most of the meals. It's just okay....the greens are from a bag but what do you expect? I do have one pet peeve about the salad bar...they keep the croutons on ice, which makes a stale crouton. I have mentioned this on a comment card twice and they still do it so it is not a big deal to them. Mack would make a killing if he was open on Sunday, but he never will be...I think that was a promise he made to his better half when he opened the place. While you're in there, say hello to him. If you have an issue, tell him. If you want to compliment something, do that as well. You will know who he is....can't miss him!

The food here is really good. I had the fried catfish and it as very well seasoned, perfectly cooked, and very tasty. The fries that came with it were really good as well. I wasn't a huge fan of their cocktail sauce, but it was okay. The hushpuppies are very good as well. My only real gripe is I had my heart set on ribs and catfish and they were out of ribs! Maybe next time. If I'm ever back in Heber Springs I will be back to Mack's.

I rode up from Cabot on a beautiful spring day. The service was fast, and the drinks came with freshly-cooked hush puppies. These were not mealy like some hush puppies can be; they were perfectly cooked and delicious. I ordered the fried crayfish po-boy and my friend ordered a 2-piece catfish meal. Both came with unlimited access to the peppers, onions, cole slaw and baked beans. There was also a small salad bar we didn't try. Both meals came out quickly and were served hot. We both enjoyed our meals and would come back again. We decided not to have dessert because we didn't want to fall asleep and wreck our motorcycles :-) I'll have to try them next time I'm in town.

This is a terrible place for fish and worst service anywhere so don't waste your money.

I have lived in Heber Springs for over 13 years and I will say that Mack's is one of those restaurants that offers good fresh food with servers who are eager to assist. Mack's is rated highly because it is one of the best places in Heber Springs to grab a quick delicious wholesome affordable meal in a clean family environment.

Nothing special. Quick turnover and volume is their key. Grilled catfish too fishy. Fried shrimp ok. Good his puppies and salad.

Service was good for the time of day, not great follow up but understanding. Fish could have been cooked a bit more for my liking but it was 'done' technically. All around a good experience compared to the last time I've been here. (About a year ago) even though I live here). Hush puppies are bland but they will give u plenty:/

Based on recommendations, we ate here last night. Place was busy and food as just OK. Couple of people had the fried catfish, and while it was good, they got 3 very small pieces. The chicken tenders were 2x the size. I got the burger and couldn't eat all of it. Just wasn't that good and was a little tough. My son ordered the BBQ ribs and they were just OK. Said they were tough and overcooked. He loves BBQ. Best part of the meal was our server. She was eager to assist.

This place is great! Hush puppies come with nearly every meal and they are some of the best I've ever had. The catfish is fried just right and an expansive salad bar make this side-of-the-road restaurant the best in Heber Springs! Look for Mack. He'll be the one keeping the dessert cooler stocked and checking up on you to make sure you're meal is perfect.

Mack's is nothing special, but that is to be expected. This doesn't make Mack's a bad place...just simple and user friendly. It is clean, staff is friendly and service was great. The food is fresh, but then again, my catfish po boy had very little flavor, bulky chunks of lettuce (such as the bottom, meaty portion of a lettuce leaf) and a small hoagie that made it hard to hold this sandwich together and enjoy. Conversely, the hush puppies brought to the table were lightly fried, not heavy, and therefore quite enjoyable. It is hard for anyone to provide a catfish dinner any better than Mister B's, where each piece of catfish is light, succulent and full of juicy flavor. But, I reckon I'll give Mack's another try sometime in the future.

Mack's serves the same kind of pre-made, frozen fried food that you can buy at a gas station. We live near Mack's, but just a few trips there were enough to tell us that we needed no more. The restaurant is also loud, with decorating that would have fit perfectly in the 80s--hard to believe, considering that Mack's is less than a decade old. Equally hard to believe is the permeating odor of grease in the restaurant. I hate to be so negative, but we are truly shocked that anyone would rate this restaurant a two or higher, much less a five. If you want big piles of poor quality but deep fried food, this is the place for you. If you want good food and a longer life, run the other way.

This is terrible food and even worse service. The fried catfish was worst I have ever eaten with small thin pieces of fish that were fried so long they were tough. They then give you a trip to what they call mini bar where you get your own beans, cole slaw, onions & pickled tomatoes. The beans tasted like someone dropped the entire box of salt in them. When we complained the bleached blond waitress told us there wasn't anything wrong with it and she wasn't going to do anything!, She was rude and disrespectful. Mack"s does not care about their customers at all. We sure miss Mister B"s in Heber Springs where they knew how to cook catfish and the waitresses were friendly. This place not only is serving bad fish but they are hateful if you don"t like it. Do not go if you want to enjoy your meal!

I ordered the cat fish po boy. They gave you a pretty decent size of fish. It was kinda heavy to eat for lunch, maybe because it was fried and had bread. They also gave you a side of hush puppies.

Very pleased. I was traveling through Heber Springs, AR for work and there aren't a huge number of restaurants to choose from, but as I was aimlessly driving around looking for somewhere to eat, I stumbled upon this place. I ordered the Southwestern Steak Salad with the Jalapeno ranch dressing and the Southwestern egg rolls. Delicious. Steak was well seasoned and the salad was crisp. The eggs rolls were crispy and very tasty. I recommend this place if you're in the Heber Springs area.
